How syniotec uses artificial intelligence for construction equipment rental companies

Autor: Elena

In one of our last blog articles, we discussed how much potential there is in AI solutions for the construction industry . Data quality is essential to the fundamental functioning of artificial intelligence. At syniotec, we have made it our mission to develop digital solutions for the construction industry as quickly as possible that deliver direct and immediate added value. One of them we present to you now.

Specific solution for construction equipment rental companies and dealers

This year, we launched our SaaS solution for construction equipment rental and dealers: RAM stands for Rental Asset Manager and is a software that digitizes the management of the rental fleet. The software connects the entire rental fleet through IoT devices to the cloud. Both our in-house IoT as well as any other telematics can be used. At the touch of a button, the live location, utilization and current performance of the machines and equipment can be viewed. This allows bookings to be managed, specific conditions to be stored per customer and a target/actual comparison of all rentals to be carried out in no time at all.

Carry out AI-supported digital handover protocols

“In addition to the software, we have developed an app that uses AI technology,” says Patrik Kuhna, Product Manager at RAM. “In collaboration with our customers, we created the RAM app, in which the documentation of the machine handover is AI-supported.”

For construction equipment  rental companies handover protocols are a crucial factor in the rental process. The process documents the condition of the construction machine both when it is handed over to the customer and when it is brought back. “There are various aspects that are highly relevant to the contractual relationship with the customer,” Kuhna notes. “These must be documented in a legally secure manner and stored in all relevant places in the system. Until now, the majority of the companies with which we have exchanged information have done this with pen and paper. We thought: Let’s change that now.”

RAM app documents central parameters

“During the development of the RAM app, the focus was on the direct benefit during the handover of machines & equipment,” says the Head of Data Science and Innovation, Dr. Dierck Segelke. “We have developed an AI that uses photos to automatically analyze displays and thereby read out tank levels and operating hours. In addition, the AI uses photos of the machine to evaluate its degree of soiling and any damage. This speeds up the entire handover process and uploads the results directly into the system.

Especially the performed operating hours based on the tachometer display were our first point of attack to generate great added value for construction equipment rental companies.”

In addition to the operating hours, other central parameters are read out. Photos are taken of the machine in the app to show the degree of pollution of the booth, and any damage on the outside of the construction machine, or to check the tank level. This streamlines the process, saves a lot of time, and also reduces manual sources of error.

Collecting clean data as a central point in development

“The problem with the development – as is so often the case with AI development – was the quality and quantity of the data,” Dr. Segelke notes. “After all, the more accurate the data, the better the solutions.”

Digitizing the construction industry together

The RAM app and our other solutions SAM,the service app and our IoT are constantly being expanded on with the help of feedback from the construction industry. Through clarity and transparency in everyday work, the goal is always to increase the efficiency of our partners.
